Billy and Jimmy both share the exact same moves, which basically makes them the Ryu and Ken of this game. The control scheme and tactics are similar to Street Fighter II, but again, the gameplay just doesn't hold up. Especially when compared to the masterpiece that was Street Fighter II, which came three years before this, and was much better designed in comparison. The graphics are rather decent for a game that came back in 1994. The controls and gameplay are rather clunky and unresponsive, and the game itself just doesn't play well at all. It's also worth mentioning that the subtitle "The Shadow Falls" is taken directly from the cartoon as its the war cry that the bad guys shout in a goofy sort of manner. Most likely due to the fact that Technos Japan wasn't involved, and because it was based on an American cartoon that didn't have a wide international audience. And from what I've heard, this game didn't get a release in Japan, and only the SNES version made it to Europe. Which explains why this game failed miserably as a fighting game and as a Double Dragon game. What really seals the coffin in this is that this game was not developed by Technos Japan, the series' creator. While the term “Street Fighter clone” is derogatory when referring to any one on one fighting game, Double Dragon V takes the cake in being one of the most blatant Street Fighter knock offs in existence, right next to Fighter's History. The game has little relation to the source material it's based on, and it's basically just a shameless and half-assed Street Fighter clone. Which is not surprising really because this game is completely shit. All versions of this game generally received negative reviews from both fans and critics alike. The game was released on the SNES, Sega Genesis, and Atari Jaguar. But that's not what I'm going to talk about. Because right from the day I first saw the advertisements for it, I knew it was going to be a crappy movie.

And believe me, I don't need to explain how atrocious that movie was. But before it bit the dust, a live action movie was made in 1994. The show lasted two seasons and 26 episodes. Mind you, it wasn't the worst ever made, but it was pretty cheesy. But I guess it wasn't quite as bad as some other shows that aired around that time. Like most video game based cartoons at the time, it was a pretty cheesy and goofy show, and it deviated greatly from the source material it was based on. In fact, this game was based on the Double Dragon cartoon that was created by DIC Entertainment, and aired back in 1993.

But for some odd reason this game is labeled as the fifth game in the series despite the fact that it has nothing in relation to the previous games. Also known as “Double Dragon V: The Shadow Falls”, this game is an unofficial sequel to the Double Dragon series following Double Dragon Returns which I reviewed earlier. But first let me get a few things out of the way.

In fact, if there's one game that truly lives up to the term "black sheep", and was so notorious that it became a disgrace to a franchise, it's this one.

Now to be perfectly blunt, I never liked this game at all. With no further delay, let's get started.Įven though I promised my friends and watchers that I would never review or speak of Double Dragon III ever again, seeing as it's left me with bad memories, I never said that I wouldn't review this game. So let me take this time to get this over with so that I can finally clean my hands of this and move on. Because for one, it's running kind of long, and I'm down to the last four games in the series.
